Web Graphics
Believe it or not there is still reason to want a web graphics designer on retainer. Or at least someone you can call on when you need a graphic for a specific purpose. One of the items we have a lot of calls for is a web graphic that displays emails and phone numbers.
See, if you type in an "@" sign in text you're more likely to get a lot of SPAM. The spiders (hacker programs) that crawl the web spin off of that little @ sign. When they encounter that, they know it's an email address; they grab it; sell it; use and abuse it. Break into it and send unsolicited emails to your friends whose emails are logged in your address book.
Everyone who has email has had it hacked at one time or another. Website email is notorious for being hacked. So, to be safe (safer) you can display your email and phone number (phone numbers are the same way - hacked all the time, thus you get solicitation phone calls) - like this ---

And, of course, there are other reasons to have a web graphics person close at hand, but you get the idea. Oh, and don't forget all the graphics people post at social media places like Facebook, Twitter and Google+. You may have more of a need than you realized. ;)
Logos
Logos are indicative of your company and define, compliment the branding process. They are a 'brand aware" notice of your company. A logo should be simple, appropriate, memorable, versatile, enduring and with enough character built in, it will be perpetual.
- Context --- A logo is not your company's identity. But it is a method of identifying your company.
- Font --- An item often overlooked as too simple to be effective, the typography sets the tone for the emotional 'connect' it may project.
- Simplicity --- Because simple may be more timeless, i.e.enduring, the logo that is simple may last a lifetime without needing an update.
- COLOR! --- Since the web spread it wings circa 1990 the display of logos has gone wild with color. Yes, logo's had color before however the graphical representation on the web allowed for color displays not before possible with simple print. It was expensive (for print) and many smaller companies did not put out the kind of money needed to make a logo have a lot of Zing! built in by utilizing a spread of color.
- Tag Line --- Unless you are Coke or Nike or some other worldwide conglomerate you need a tag line. Most small business now realize they need to describe what they provide by way of products or services.
